Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Replicate a modern marvel with the famed Farnsworth House™! Few one-room homes are as strikingly modern and instantly recognizable as the Farnsworth House™, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. This single-story steel structure with floor-to-ceiling glass walls was meant to open a minimalist interior to nature in an extreme way. Construction took place from 1945–1951 on a 60-acre estate beside the Fox River in Plano, Illinois, where it still stands today. The assembled Farnsworth House model is over 10” (25cm) wide on a base with printed name label and includes a booklet with facts about the building, its construction and history.

We purchased this Lego set for our son's 10th birthday and he loves it. He has been a huge Lego fan since he was in preschool, so although this set is intended for ages 12 and up, he had no problem assembling it without help. It took him less than an hour total to complete the set.

He really likes building from tiny pieces, which is how all of the Architecture sets are constructed. If you prefer using the larger, traditional bricks, this set may not be for you. Although it has over 500 pieces, the finished model isn't large. It looks very cool, however, and I like that our son is presented with a bit more of a challenge than from some of the other Lego sets.

Additionally, the Architecture series is nice because it encourages kids to learn more about the buildings themselves. While my son was working on the Farnsworth house, we looked up details about the architect, where the house is located, and what makes it interesting. As with any Lego product, the quality is excellent and the instruction manual is extremely clear and easy to follow.

The Lego Farnsworth house is an excellent kit if you enjoy the architectural type models that Lego has been producing. It is a bit different than the other models in the series in that the scale is a a bit bigger, which allows you to see the interior of the model, which is a nice change. The kit is well designed and I believe captures the essence of the real thing better than any of the other architectural kits so far. An excellent job was done designing the house to feel like it is floating. I have liked the Farnsworth house since the first time I saw it, and the model does it justice. Not much playability to it, but if you're buying these sets because you like architecture, and legos, you aren't looking to build anything else with the pieces anyway.

The build is pretty straight forward, just two points to note: despite the number of pieces listed on the box, about 150 of them are 1x1 flats to capture the deck, patio, and interior flooring. This does make it a bit tricky getting them all looking straight. The kit is simpler than the number of pieces might suggest. My only negative on this kit is the base which it sits on. Rather than a single base plate, it is a series of 12 6x10's which are connected together underneath. This leaves the base feeling a bit unstable and I wish it were a single flat plate.

All in all, a great kit.

I grew up with lego, and am now 23. So when I saw that lego had come out with sets for more grown adults to enjoy I was happy. What made it even better is that I graduated from college in a Architecture Major, so I am big into Architecture. While this set may seen minimalistic, in the end it is that characteristic that sets it apart and makes it unique. It was a blast to build and is probably the one lego set that took the longest to build out of all the lego sets I have built in my life thus far. If your a perfectionist like myself, you are going to want to make sure all the little flat 1x1 tile line up perfectly, EVERYWHERE. I found out (and I'm sure alot of other reviewers found out also) that it just simply doesn't look good if the 1x1 tiles are crooked all over the place. I think that is the reason this set takes so long to build over the others. Overall I would definately recommend this set. The price may be steep for some, but I think its a price thats worth it. I'm still waiting to breakdown and buy the Fallingwater Model.

This particular model isn't your every day Lego set. Each piece in the series (I have others) is designed in part by an actual architect, and while the set is seemingly "easy" to put together, it still wields a delightfully rewarding result; it is fun and requires the regular Lego step-taking manual in order to finish the product; this trains adults and youngsters alike to chip away at the "puzzle" with patience and prioritization, with a great payoff.

I am an Architecture student, and a few remaining models are DEFINITELY going on my Christmas list; I wouldn't necessarily purchase this for a young child; it adds value to the purpose of the set if the child actually understands what he/she is building. The set does come with a detail on its actual counterpart, but once finished, is not intended to be dismantled; its a Lego set, and like most of them, it will come apart, if mishandled or dropped. It is great fun and time consuming; however, rather than a child, I would recommend this more for an adult, teen, student, or collector.

About the seller:
Item delivered a day early than what the expected date which is nice, and the item is in proper condition when i received it. (box is even properly intact)

About the product: (this comment is for class purposes only but the item itself is nice and can be collected)
Bought this item as my class project in Inventor. As a new designer with only 2 months knowledge in the program, I found the pieces of this Lego very easy when drawing and copying this thru Inventor. With 546 pcs but just 40 different (kind) Lego tiles inside not to mention that every pieces is just plain square tiles, I draw each pieces in just 3 to 4 minutes and the project done in one day including the assembly. Because the item do not challenge me enough when drawing this to Inventor, I decided to toss this as my project and decided to buy the Lego Star Wars X wing fighter jet and make it as my final project presentation. X wing Lego pieces is a lot harder to draw that sometimes a single piece can take me 1 hour to finish (remember I only have 2 months knowledge in Inventor so with the people that already knows the program might be drawing this in much lesser time). X wing have 560 pieces with 148 different kind of pieces, pieces that sometimes have different angles not to mention those weird shapes that you need to plan how to tackle this and make it easier to draw.
