Caveat first: I'm returning them already, and I've only had them for an afternoon. For me, the ankle gaiter is too small and does not zip up the last half inch--I don't even think I could force it, and I don't want to. I had already ordered a half size up from my normal (11 instead of 10.5) because of other NBs I've worn in the past. The fit of the main part of the shoe is fine, though a little roomy in the toes. I could probably order an 11.5 or 12 to compensate for the ankle sizing, but that would leave too much space in the toe box.

I only saw one other review speaking to the tightness in the ankle, so I wanted to add a bit more about that. If you have larger ankles, you might want to consider ordering two pair and returning one (advice someone once told me about buying shoes online that I don't follow myself--or if you have a local store that carries them, try them on first). I couldn't pass up the price when I ordered ($37+change), so I'm a little let down that they don't fit properly. I like the idea of the shoe quite a bit and thought it would be a nice minimalist shoe for snowshoeing and winter running.

This shoe rocks for keeping your feet dry - last winter I ran all the time in these shoes - and the zippers wore out - one broke the pull (I gettoed a paper clip) and the other slides down during the run. so this year I'm only using these on rainy days, which here in the pacific northwest means most days anyways. But at this price I couldn't pass up.

After putting about 50 miles into these shoes in the past week, I would say that they've done a pretty good job. I've been using them mainly for trail running and hiking along some medium difficulty level trails. I used them to step in puddles, walk through mud, cross small creeks, etc. and they've definitely kept my feet dry the entire time so that is a big plus from such a light shoes.

There are a few drawbacks to using these, however. Since the shoe is light (a definite pro), they don't give very much foot support so your feet end up doing quite a bit of work. If you're into minimalistic running, then this shouldn't be an issue. And during runs, this really wasn't that big of an issue. However, hiking on trails, where there are a lot more rocks than the trail-running trails, can be pretty harsh on your feet.

Additionally, the zipper on the shoe gets stuck sometimes, but isn't too big of a deal.

The "ankle support" isn't much support, its definitely more to keep water out. So if you're looking for something just to do hikes, get hiking shoes. You will be happy you did.

All in all, its an excellent shoe and something I would recommend, especially to minimalist runners.

This shoe keeps your feet dry and warm in weather but doesn't breath well in normal conditions. I wouldn't buy it for use on dry runs. That is still reserved for the mt110 regular trail running shoe. All the sweat kind of builds up in the shoe if you run in drier weather. I like the feel of it though.

These shoes are the perfect choice if you run often in bad weather. They are protective, comfortable, flexible but tough: they are not exactly minimalist shoes because of the drop 4, but they are actually trail shoes so the target was a little bit different. IMHO they can be used also on street, because they are not extremely specialist trail shoes (like the MT10), or at least I find them great also on asphalt and concrete, especially where they are not perfectly leveled. I paid these shoes a ridiculous price from Amazon in my size, but I do recognize that at full price they can be quite unconvenient because of its limited use. Well, I recently moved to Michigan and I am already using them a lot (and we are in September...), so they are a good deal, especially if you compare the prices with other similar model. Last thing: they are great also as normal shoes, very comfortable and stylish, great under autumn showers and storm.

I have wide feet, so I noticed these were quite a bit narrower than my other New Balance D width shoes. Overall though, they are awesome for snow, mud, and rain. I found the exterior to be completely waterproof. I believe over time they might start leaking just because the exterior coating and fabric gets worn with heavy use.
